Social Responsibility
Supporting our community, respecting our environment and acting responsibly
Respecting our environment and supporting our community
Baldarroch Chapel and Crematorium is set in a peaceful rural location at Crathes, surrounded by the Aberdeenshire countryside. We recognise the responsibility that comes with caring for this setting, supporting the people who use our facilities, and playing a positive role within the local community.
As part of the Horizon Cremation Group, we take our social responsibilities seriously. This means aiming to conduct our work ethically, sensitively and responsibly, with care for families, respect for the environment and support for the communities around us.
Our approach is based on doing the right thing wherever possible, from using local suppliers and tradespeople, to supporting local charities, maintaining safe facilities and continually reviewing how we can reduce our impact and improve the service we provide.
Supporting local people and businesses
Baldarroch has always aimed to support the local community wherever possible. From the original construction of the building to the ongoing day-to-day support needed to operate the crematorium, local businesses, suppliers and tradespeople have played an important role in helping make Baldarroch the place it is today.
We continue to use local businesses wherever possible, helping support the area’s economy and ensuring we work with people who understand the local community.
We also value the relationships we have built with families, funeral directors, suppliers and organisations across Aberdeenshire, and we are committed to maintaining those relationships with care, professionalism and respect.
Environment
We are mindful of the impact our work has on the environment and the responsibility we have to protect the setting around Baldarroch.
As part of Horizon, we continue to review our operations through the principles of ESG, which considers our environmental, social and governance responsibilities.
Charity support
Funds raised through the recycling of metals are donated to local charities on an annual basis.
Across the Horizon Cremation Group, donations have supported hospices, cancer care charities, food banks and other important local causes, helping make a positive difference in the communities we serve.
Community
We aim to be a responsible and supportive part of the local community.
That includes employing and working with local people, maintaining strong relationships with local suppliers and organisations, and supporting families and funeral directors with care, clarity and compassion.
Public Access Defibrillator
Baldarroch has a Public Access Defibrillator located externally under the canopy on the right hand side of the building.
Access to the cabinet can be gained through the staff at Baldarroch. During periods of closure, access can be provided by calling the emergency services on 999, who can pass on the cabinet door combination if required.
We hope it is never needed, but its presence provides reassurance for visitors, staff and the wider community in the event of an emergency.
ESG and responsible operations
ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance. It is a way of measuring how an organisation manages its impact on the environment, supports people and communities, and operates transparently and responsibly.
As part of the Horizon Cremation Group, Baldarroch is aligned with a wider commitment to responsible operations and continual improvement. Horizon has developed a sustainability strategy based on the ESG framework and continues to review performance as the group grows and develops its services.
Our aim is to provide a professional and caring crematorium service while acting responsibly towards families, staff, funeral directors, the local community and the environment.
A responsible part of the local community
Baldarroch Chapel and Crematorium is here to support families, funeral directors and the wider community with dignity, care and respect.
